About the Rotary Clubs of Markham

Rotary brings together 1.2 million neighbors, friends, and community leaders to create positive, lasting change in our communities and around the world. Through differing occupations, cultures, and countries, Rotarians have a unique perspective. Through shared passion for service Rotarians are able to accomplish the remarkable.

1.2 In 1985, Rotary launched its PolioPlus program to immunize all of the world's children against polio. As of 2011 Rotary has contributed more than 900 million US dollars to the cause, resulting in the immunization of nearly two billion children worldwide.


In 2008, Rotary received a $100 million challenge grant from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. Together, the Gates Foundation and Rotary have committed $555 million toward the eradication of polio.
